GI endoscopy is a medical procedure that allows a doctor to examine the inside of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The procedure is performed using an endoscope, which is a long, thin tube with a camera and light on the end. The endoscope is inserted through the mouth or rectum and advanced into the stomach and small intestine. During the procedure, the doctor is able to view the inside of the GI tract on a monitor, allowing them to detect any abnormalities, such as ulcers, polyps, or cancer. Endoscopy can also be used to take biopsies and remove polyps. The procedure is generally performed on an outpatient basis, and mild sedation is often given to help the patient relax and reduce discomfort. Recovery time is typically short, and most people are able to return to their normal activities as advised by the doctor
